Little update Nature Big Day Out at Bingley North Bog

Had a great day at Bingley North Bog on 19th September, as part of Bradford's Nature Big Day Out.

Bradford Pennine Gateway National Nature Reserve is the result of a partnership between Natural England and Bradford Council.  It is the first of its kind in West Yorkshire.  It's a large area that crosses eight sites which are: Ilkley Moor, Penistone Hill Country Park, Shipley Glen, Baildon Moor, Trench Meadows, St Ives Estate, Harden Moor and Bingley North Bog.  It is really important in protecting endangered species such as curlew, golden plover and adder. Not to mention the many plants that love these places.

I was there to facilitate a bit of nature printing and show off my sketchbooks, in which I have lots of sketches of fascinating bog plants.

Loads of people stopped by and enjoyed printing and watching the solitary heron in the field opposite, who was still as a statue ("Is that bird real?!") until it caught a vole and let it hang there for a while to make sure we had all seen. Then down it's neck it went.  That was entertaining!!   If you'd like to see a photo look at @wild_west_yorkshire on Instagram.  He was there with his gorgeous wildlife photos and managed a good pic of the heron on the day.
